Does a domain impact SEO?
Your domain can have an impact on your search ranking if you are using relevant keywords or branded words. Choosing a short and concise domain will result in more clicks, and using relevant keywords will result in higher ranking for those keyword/phrases.
It cannot negatively impact your SEO, so if your chosen business name or relevant keywords are not available, choose an alternative domain that’s easy to remember.

Can I have more than one domain?
Yes, you can have more than one domain. It is common practice once you register a business name to also register the domain names with the available extensions so other businesses do not use those. It isnt necessary and often times you will find that the domain is only available with .com or .com.au and not both.
What is the difference between .com and .com.au
Generally a .com.au domain is for Australian owned businesses and you need to have an ABN or ACN for your business to be eligible to get these.
Recently there has been some changes as to who is eligible to purchase the .com.au domain, and while this does not affect the SEO of your domain, it will add consumer/visitor confidence in your brand if you do have a .com.au as you now need to be BASED in Australia, not just have an ABN.
What about .edu.au or .org domains?
In order to be considered eligible for a domain name in the edu.au space, the organisation applying must be a recognised education or training entity operating in Australia. You can read more about the eligibility here.
The .org.au domain is for non-commercial organisations, you can find out more about the eligibility here.
